Supporting Basrah Airport in its transition to become a CAT 2 and Cat 3 airport

Basrah International Airport (IATA: BSR) is the second largest international airport in Iraq, and is located in the southern city of Basra.  In 2019 it recorded more than 10,000 movements and close to one million passengers travelled to and from the airport.

Basrah International is connected with most of the countries in the Middle East and with Turkey. The airport has been a long time partner of the AFM Group that supported the airport’s transition to become a Cat 2 airport in 2012.  AFM Group designed, supplied, installed and commissioned all systems.

AFM Group upgraded the airport’s airfield ground lighting but also all systems and solutions including the substations to accommodate the Cat 2 requirements.

In 2014 the AFM Group supported the transition of the airport to become a Cat 3 airport thereby also taking care of adding floodlighting and apron management systems. The transition included both the design, delivery, installation and commissioning of all Cat 3 related equipment besides the floodlighting and apron management systems.

Thanks to its long time experience and expertise on all airside operations, all tower related systems and the apron management solutions the Group has become the leading expert in delivering all airside projects in Iraq and beyond.
